There are many issues in the field of Maya Iconology beyond one's reach, because it's simply impossible to think today in the West World such as a Maya scribe of the VIII century. However, I believe that a way has been in existence for many years without the archaeologist making good and sufficient use of it: to elaborate the hypothesis on the base of comparative information, historical, ethnographical, ancient or modern, originating in whatever place you look for. Here, I apply the results of this procedure to an specific and significant iconological specimen, the mirror. My conviction is that the mirror in Maya painting ceramics is much more than a cosmetic artefact, and I think we must interpret this element as a magical device.
